AI is a type of software model that is trained on stolen artwork from human artists without their consent and used to "create" new images. These models are powered by AI data centres that use enormous amounts of power and water and create massive amount of pollution. A single data centre can use up to 18 billion litres of fresh water in a single day. After the cooling process, it becomes toxic water and can never be reused. The centre can also ise enough electricity to power 100,000 households. This is only one centre in a single day. At the time of writing, there are 1,200 centres globally that focus exclusively on AI.
This is why I-Con is completely anti-AI and will not support anyone who uses it. We ask our stall holders to confirm that their products were not produced using AI and not to use AI for their advertising and promotional images.
The committee are working hard to ensure no AI content makes it to the convention but with AI becoming more sophisticated, the tell-tale signs may not be obvious. If you believe something is AI, please let a staff member know and we will investigate. Also please be aware that AI is trained on popular art styles and what may initially look like AI could just be the original style it was trained on.
Thank you for taking the time to read this policy.
TLDR: AI bad, people good...
